Research Summary:
Our team is focused on identifying mutations that enable life to reproduce under Mars-relevant conditions. Laboratory evolution experiments using with DNA-barcoded E. coliexposed to UV radiation, freeze-thaw, desiccation and hypobaricity will allow us to map the adaptive landscape of the harsh Martian-surface in relation to the evolutionary potential of a Terran bacterium.
