Research Summary:
The Sniegowski group uses experimental microbial populations to study the evolution of genomic mutation rates. Previous studies have shown that the genomic mutation rate of a non-recombining population under natural selection is unstable. Current work explores the influence of recombination on mutation rate evolution and the effects of high genomic mutation rates on mutational load, population persistence, and adaptation.
